Blending the small town feel of a Traditional Neighborhood Design with innovative methods to limit use of natural resources, The Howard Hughes Corporation has chosen David Weekley Homes as their homebuilder partner to bring the first low-impact development neighborhood to Parkland Village.
Introducing Parkland Square, the newest neighborhood to be developed in Parkland Village. Bridgeland’s second village is taking sustainable practices to the next level. This neighborhood will utilize rain gardens as a means of depositing cleaner water into storm drains that lead to lakes, creeks and streams.
Through the utilization of 11 rain gardens – one of the first uses within all of Harris County in a residential setting – Parkland Square will filter rain and storm runoff to enhance water quality in the lakes for the betterment of wildlife and recreation. Rain gardens work by receiving dirty “first flush” runoff from pavement and park spaces, and then filtering that water through the soil to naturally remove unwanted impurities. Rain garden plants can use this filtered water for nutrients, saving water by reducing the need for irrigation.
An added benefit will allow area students educational opportunities to learn more about how sustainable efforts, such as rain gardens, use resources wisely and benefit ecosystems.
Continuing Bridgeland’s award-winning master plan of connecting people with their natural environment, Parkland Square will feature a Traditional Neighborhood Design. The closely-knit community will see residents enjoying walks, bike rides and relaxing in the park. The well-connected streets and pathways will incorporate features to make the neighborhood walkable to future schools, shopping, and public spaces. A centrally located park named Celebration Park will give residents the ability to enjoy shared amenities like a dog park, playground, pavilion, and large lawn for neighborly, outdoor get-togethers.
Similar in feel to Lakeland Heights within Lakeland Village, David Weekley will build 178 homes on homesites ranging from 35 feet to as large as 60 feet. Parkland Square homeowners can choose from a mix of Modern Prairie and Modern Farmhouse architectural styles which will complement the esthetic of the growing community.
Construction has begun on model homes within Parkland Square and pre-sales are now underway. A grand opening is being planned for this fall.
