As summer winds down and families ready their students to return to school today, elementary students in Parkland Village will be heading to the newly completed McGown Elementary. Cy-Fair Independent School District’s 57th elementary school is located in the heart of Parkland Village at 21211 Tuckerton Road. The two-story structure will welcome its first classes, accommodating children from pre-k through fifth grade.
Enhancing Bridgeland’s already strong network of schools, the McGown Owls will join the Pope Panthers and Wells Explorers as Bridgeland’s third elementary school. A future Waller ISD elementary school is slated for Prairieland Village in the coming years, when eventually, Bridgeland students will be part of three Independent School Districts: Cy-Fair ISD, Waller ISD and Katy ISD.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) rates schools in Texas based on students’ STARR test results. Schools receive a grade for each of the three categories in their accountability system: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gap. Both Waller and Cy-Fair schools have ranked very highly based on these test results.
This is great news for Bridgeland and families wanting to move to Prairieland as the majority of the village will be supported by Waller ISD. All Bridgeland schools have a proven track record, giving parents confidence that their child is receiving a top-notch education. Currently, Waller classes are a bit smaller, but projected growth will increase the district’s population over the next 10 years. In preparation, WISD is renovating and building state-of-the-art facilities and developing cutting-edge programs to meet the demands of the growing community.
One such program is the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) ensuring that students are prepared to be successful in a 4.0 world. Another is the FANUC robotics training site at Waller High School, the only one in the state of Texas. Waller also offers students over 20 industry-based certifications. An impressive 700+ students in the class of 2022 graduated with a certification through their CTE programs. Additionally, Waller High School students can earn 40 hours of dual credit courses through a partnership with Lone Star College.
New and updated facilities will invigorate learning across the K-12 district. A new Waller High School opens this August followed by a newly renovated Junior High School in 2023, and renovated Roberts Road Elementary is projected to open in August of 2024.
With a vision for the future, Waller ISD uses technology and partners with the community in a supportive environment to bring out the very best in every student. View testimonials from Waller parents in the below video and see how it all adds up to student success.
